How To Clean Grout In Four Easy Steps With The Power Of Steam
Cleaning your grout is a great way to refresh the look of your bathroom or kitchen. If done manually, it’s also a long, tiresome and frustrating task.
If you have ever spent an afternoon on your knees with a toothbrush trying to clean grout, you know what I mean.
The good news is: there is a better – and easier- way to clean grout! Here’s how to do it efficiently with the use of a steam cleaner.
- Make sure you’re using a steam cleaner that provides steam of at least 300°F
Grout is porous, which means only so much can be done by simply scrubbing it. Steam is the most powerful cleaner because it penetrates deep into it. However, steam is only really efficient at high temperature. JM Vapeur only rents steam cleaners that offer steam at above 300°F.
- Use a brush
Commercial steam cleaners such as those that JM Vapeur rent come with brushes which you can attach to the lance tool. The lance creates a highly-concentrated steam jet which dislodges the dirt, and the brush finishes the job.
Choose the type of brush according to the type of grout you are currently cleaning (a nylon brush is usually enough).
- Rub delicately until the steam has removed all of the dirt
Don’t rub too strongly! You could damage the grout. Let the steam do its job; the brush is only there to support it.
- Finish the job with the rectangle tool in order to remove the left-over dirt
By doing so, you’ll be cleaning your ceramic as well. Note that you can also simply wipe the ceramic with a cloth if you consider that it’s already clean.
